Bastille Day
Enjoyed the fete on Ponce de Leon for early Bastille Day celebration. Former Trips guitarist, Raphael Bas, played his wonderful "gypsy jazz" in a scaled-down version of his band Harmonouche, with 88-year old accordionist, Norbert Slama and Chris Kohl on clarinet:
Present Trips guitarist, Mark Fowler, his lovely wife, Pat & I all mosied down from their groovy pad in the shadow of the Luling Mansion, post-rehearsal.
Mark Fowler with Dancing Heads
Pat (Mark's lovely wife) & Mark
The weather was nice & so were the folks out on the street, including Linda & Malcom Burns, with visiting grandkids:
Ran into "Jaguar" George with his pals Rene and Steve:
--they started out early for the "Running of the Bulls" with the Roller Derby Gals on roller skates, chasing them with plastic bats...
Also saw former neighbor and present-day Frenchman, artist Simon with his wife Maria and their pal:
Cynthia Scott sang the French National Anthem en francais as well as her translation en anglais, which as Mark put it, "I like it better in French" since the anthem called for the slitting of throats--of even your wife...
Saw Raphael's wife, Marie, and caught up with her a bit. Did not get a pic!
Enjoyed a crawfish pie from Santa Fe and gulped down four Purple Hazes. Nice day!

Me and pal Robinouin took advantage of the Preservation Resource Center's Renovators' Happy Hour to house-snoop at a grand ole dame on Euterpe this evening.
Patty Gay & architect Don McInnis gave us the scoop and then we got to snoop--Immense pocket doors with columns:
Some other original, knock-out features including:
fireplace in back room
Looking through the middle room to the back room
middle room fireplace

huge french doors leading to the wrap around porch

Those fantabulux folkx at R&S Auto Service repaired the FurryMobile with great care & efficiency: apparently the carbeurator disentegrated and they rebuilt it! Cool! You can do that in an old car, they said. Eat that, Smart Car! (I was concerned about that loud grinding noise the motor made when I started it, but now it's purrin' like it oughta!) Thanks, R of R&S!!!! Love you!!!
